About Catalan language
Catalan language is a western Romance language that was developed from Vulgar Latin. It is the official language of the Mediterranean country of Andorra, and it is also spoken in several regions in Spain such as the Spanish Autonomous Communities of Catalonia, where it is the co-official language along with Spanish and the second most spoken language, in the Balearic Islands, in the Valencian Community, where it is called Valencian, and in La Franja (The Strip, called La Franja de Aragón in Spanish); in the region of Rousillon, in southern France; and in the city of Alghero, in the Italian island of Sardinia.
The Catalan language is the language of 4,4 million people in the world, but there are 7,7 million people that can speak it and 10,5 million that understand it.
Catalan has two main dialects, the Eastern Catalan and the Western Catalan, but they don’t have major differences.
